Details of the places
Salineras de Maras
Maras is a small community 40 kilometers from the city of Cusco, via Chinchero, on a detour from the highway to the city of Urubamba. Its main attraction, in addition to its church dating from colonial times, are the salt mines, located near the town, which captivate tourists and particularly those who love photography. The salt extraction process has been in use since pre-Columbian times and is maintained today by a native community. The extraction method used involves the use of an ancient drying process, the salty water that flows from an underground stream, is allowed to sunbathe in thousands of wells or pools until it has evaporated leaving only the salt, which is then ready to be sold or exchanged for other goods. During the summer months (April-October) the brilliant spectacle offered by the pools is incomparable.
Archaeological Complex of Moray
It is located 57 km northwest of the city of Cusco. Moray is made up of 4 slightly elliptical galleries, which the settlers call "muyus". The largest gallery has a depth of 45 m and the average height of each platform is 1.80 m. For the researchers, the circular platforms of Moray functioned as an agricultural research center, where each level offered a different climatic environment allowing to cultivate different plants in an experimental way. The platforms were built on retaining walls filled with fertile soil. They were watered through complex irrigation systems. At the bottom of the platforms, there is a system that stores the water from the rains. Following this practice, more than 250 plant species were cultivated.
Ollantaytambo
Each stone worked is an independent work of art in relation to the others, with different sides, angles and volumes. The ancient Peruvians, oblivious to our ease and pragmatism, had another concept of time and art. Ollantaytambo is also known for an Inca plot drama titled "Ollantay", whose protagonist was General Ollanta; In this literary work the actions take place in this place.
Pisaq
The town of Pisac will be our first point of visit, the town of Pisac has a mestizo architecture built on indigenous remains by Viceroy Toledo. The archaeological complex that makes up Pisac would have been built during the 10th and 11th centuries of our era, in the period of the Inca expansion and would have had urban and religious purposes.
